The impact of one “ the success of non- achievement”

Bogotá, March 2019.

At the moment we are supporting and mentoring in Bogotá 3 of the 5 Striders in

Colombia. For them as part of a western culture, plans, agendas, schedules, numbers

and proven facts are the way to measure success on a task. But in a context where

relationships and how they feel and think about you is the most important thing, the

concept of success has another meaning; Therefore another way to achieve it.

And the process of understand it has been what they have been living in the last 8 months.

For a 6 years old kid, the figures and statistics are not very important, but what matters to him or her is 5 minutes of attention, a hug when he arrives, the feeling that he or she is important and someone cares. Give those things to them is our success.

Sometimes we define our life as a tasks-list to tick . It is not wrong, but is not all! We never will know the impact of a strider like Rachel, Anisa or Katie are producing in the life of the kids and families around them. But what are convinced that if they have the possibility of making better the day of a child in poverty among violence and hunger, it will be worth it, even if our idea of success has to be “sacrificed” on the way.
